Diesel power cars

IIs there any company, that will rent you a Diesel power car in German when you request one?

Seems I request Diesel cars every time and than only gasoline cars are available.
Sure they give you an upgrade, but that takes even more euros to fill the tank!

Thanks Bob.

About 50% of the rental car fleets in Germany are diesel so you have a good chance of getting one. No company will guarantee a diesel, however. I rented two cars last month and both turned out to be diesel, though neither was what the voucher called for. The first one called for a VW Golf and I got an Opel Merivia, a compact-size SUV/wagon/van. The second car was for travel to Poland and the voucher said Opel Vectra, manual transmission. I got an Opel Signum with automatic and diesel. Incidentaly that car went 850 kilometers on 13.4 gallons of fuel, just under 40 miles per gallon.

Rental companies will only guarantee the category, transmission type, and air-conditioning. Even then, if they consider the vehicle offered to be an upgrade (manual to automatic, sedan to wagon, wagon to van), they have fulfilled their contractural obligation.
