I hope someone can help me. I am renting a car in Germany and will be driving to Austria and Switzerland. Do I need to by the stickers that go in the window? Where would I buy them, and how much do they cost? I have heard you can get a fine if you do not have them. Is this true? Please help!

Yes, for travel to A and CH, you will need to purchase the toll stickers.
The stickers are available at gas stations near the border.
In 2005 the fees were as follows:
Swiss Highway - 40 Swiss francs (US$35)
Austrian passenger-car vignette - Prices range from 7.60 euros ($10) for a 10-day sticker to 72.60 euros ($93) for a year (14 months). You can buy an Austrian or Swiss vignette at gas stations, at border crossings, or at post offices.
Here is the web-link for the site where I found this info:

Hope this helps.
Cheers!

I hope not to late, but those vignettes are required only to use the Autobahns in Austria and Switzerland. If you're sticking to the B roads, you don't need them.
