Re: PLACES TO SPEND A WEEK

You are obviously looking for advice on places to go, not tour companies. I want to add to what fisher972002 told you.

Like he and his wife, my husband and I really liked Rothenburg. Hopefully you can avoid the tourists we saw by going a little off-season. Another great place to visit is Dinkelsbuehl. Also very quaint, but without the tourists.

Our favorite day during our last tour was of the Bodensee region. For some reason we English-speakers call it Lake Constance. I loved Meersburg. Take the boat to the island Mainau after 4 pm and save half. It gives you all the time you need. Even my husband thought the flowers were amazing.

Fuessen is very nice. Stop there for breakfast then head to the castles. Walk or take the horse carriage to the top of Neuschwanstein, but don't go in since they try to herd you through. I instead would go inside Linderhof castle. Don't forget to take a walk to the Grotto. You will then understand why they thought the man who had it built was crazy.

As for places to stay, just stay two nights in all different places. Small towns are very easy to access by car. If you stay in Munich, make sure you stay near a subway stop. Do not try to take your rental car into Munich city center! We could have saved ourselves much stress if we had done this! Go to http://www.viamichelin.com/ for very accurate directions!

Other places I love are:
Munich, Trier and Heidelberg in Germany
Salzburg and Innsbruck in Austria
Lucerne in Switzerland
