Suggestions for a family of 5?
Date: 2007/09/06 22:40 By: zigl Status:

My family of five (2 teen girls and 9yr old boy) will be going to Austria and Germany next year. Any advice on what size car to rent? How far in advance to reserve it ? And also does anyone know if rentals can be driven into Italy or should we just take a train ride? Any help is appreciated!

Hi Nssn - I recommend the VW Touran.

It's cheaper than a 7 passenger van and larger than the VW Passat Wagon or Opel Vectra Wagon.

With Gemut.com you can change or cancel anytime. So I always reserve early(6 months in advance) and check back w/ them to ensure I have the best rate. They have always promised to re-book if a lower rate becomes available.

Cars can be driven to Italy, but it's best to return the car to the country from which you rented.
