I was a little surprised that the latest email talked about good value hotel accommodation but didn't mention the best value of all: self catering apartments. They are ideal in cities (we had a great apartment in the centre of Vienna last year) and in the countryside. You have masses more space than in hotels. Families or groups have space they can sit together on their own instead of having to balance on beds and, best of all, you can save money and be flexible by at least getting your own breakfast and other meals when you don't want to have to get dressed to go out to a restaurant. 6 people in a 5 star apartment in Bavaria will pay less than $35 each per night for bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, kitchen/dining room, sitting room and balcony. With a main meal in a local restaurant for less than $25 and the possibility of preparing your own breakfast and snack lunch or supper, you are going to have a lot of change from $100 per day!
