why pick a favorite? enjoy the best of all 3

Germany's diversity, the ability to pace yourself at leisure in a rental car, using autobahn when needed for long distances, yet many charming villages, cities, castles, lakes...

Austria has a relaxed natural beauty and is essentially a cheaper version of Switzerland; explore the Salzkammergut, see Mauthausen concentration camp near Linz, visit the Oberndorf chapel where the famous Christmas carol "Silent Night" was written (great story on that), or if cities are your thing Vienna is unsurpassed for its offerings.

Switzerland (at least the Berner Oberland where I've spent most my time) is a fairy tale land; the covered walking porticos of the historic capital Berne, experience driving up and down the tiny wine roads near Lake Geneva (and just happen on a casual wine tasting right in the vineyard as I did) Chateau Chillon, the Matterhorn....you could go on for ever. the transportation system unmatched anywhere. skip Zurich, skip St. Moritz if summer; Murten is nice too

so, even if you can't do all in one trip, make them all your favorite!

happy travels
