Gault Millau 2007 | Print |  E-mail
Aug 28, 2007 at 05:13 PM

Gault Millau unveils the top-rated restaurants in Switzerland this year.

This year’s Gault Millau Switzerland guide is out, with reviews of the country’s top restaurants. Unlike the Michelin Guide, Gault Millaut focuses expressly on the quality of food, with commentary about services and atmosphere separate from the final rating. This year’s highest marks go to:

  • Rheinhotel Fischerzunft, Schaffhausen
  • Kunststuben, Kusnacht (Zürich)
  • Domaine de Chateaux-Vieux, Satigny–Geneva
  • Santabonddio, Lugano
  • Waldhotel Fletschhorn, Saas-fee (Southeast Swizterland)

Fischerzunft
At the very top of the list is the hotel Fischerzunft restaurant. Located north of Zürich in the town of Schaffhausen, Chef André Jaeger offers a unique fusion of traditional European and Asian-inspired delicacies, which he dubs "Yin and Yang." Chef Jaeger has twice achieved Gault-Millau's Chef of the Year award and earns the Fischerzunft 19 out of a possible 20 points in the survey. Contact: Rheinhotel Fischerzunft, Rheinquai 8, CH-8200 Schaffhausen, tel. +41/52/632 05 05, info@fischerzunft.ch

Kunststuben
Moving just five miles south of Zürich, we find Chef Horst Petermann and his restaurant Kunststuben. Regarded as one of the most expensive restaurants in the world, Kunststuben serves up a variety of international dishes in a setting that feels like an art gallery.  Contact: Horst & Iris Petermann, Seestrasse 160, CH - 8700 Kusnacht, tel. +41/44/910 07 15, info@kunststuben.com

Domaine de Chateaux-Vieux
Chef Philippe Chevrier's Domaine de Chateaux-Vieux is home to more traditional European cuisine. Located in the historic Chateau de Peney vineyard of Geneva, Chateaux-Vieux is Chevrier's flagship restaurant.  Contact: Chemin de Châteauvieux, Peney-Dessus 16, CH-1242, Satigny – Genève, tel. +41/22/753 15 11, fax 753 19 24, info@chateauvieux.ch or reservation@chateauvieux.ch. Fletschhorn
The Fletschhorn has more than just 18 points on the survey. Chef Marcus Neff has impressed tasters with a simple style to become Gault Millau's youngest ever Chef of the Year for 2007. Located in the southeast of Switzerland, Neff's creations complement a world-class wine cellar. Contact: Waldhotel Fletschhorn, ch-3906 Saas-fee, tel. +41/27/957 21 31, fax 957 21 87, info@fletschhorn.ch
